Shattered Diamonds

She stands erect
Hooded hollows shield her eyes
As they stroke
Their never-ending dance across the sky.
Her hand stretches out
Slender twigs brush his cheek
Brush away the shattered
Diamonds cascading to the ground.

Soft strokes scratch his soft, bearded cheek
As he gazes, awestruck
At her hooded stars
They no longer glow bright
No diamonds grace their rim
Perched precariously around the edge.
Luscious crimson roses smile,
Gentle thornless hands fondle
Children’s faces.

As she laughs, her stars still dim,
But as she cries, diamonds fall away.
Diamonds filled with bitter, sweet
Salt
Shattering under a pressure
Not many can brace against.
But the stars shine bright
As the tears make way for
Laughter, joy,
Starbright.
Starlight.
